Gloke

Pavee Point Men's Health Team helped produce a great poem called 'Gloke'. We want to make a film of this poem - featuring Traveller men.

My Story

Traveller men's health status is low  and Traveller men die 15 years younger than men in the general population.    Traveller health is impacted by racism and discrimination.   And a significant killer in the community is suicide.Pavee Point Men's Health Team and a group of Traveller men from Coolock, Finglas and Clondalkin in Dublin worked with Geoff 'The Poet' Finan over a six week period to explore these issues  and used  creative ways  to share their story through their own lived experience. The result was a powerful and hard hitting poem called Gloke (Cant for man). The poem brings you on a journey through the life of a Traveller man growing up. This poem was recently performed by a Traveller man at the First Fortnight Mental Health Festival event Empowered Voices. The next step is to produce a film of the poem being performed by Travellers so that we can bring our poem to film festivals and highlight the mental health issues facing Traveller men.
