I have been lucky enough to have been chosen  to travel to Nansana, Uganda as a volunteer this Summer for a 5 week physiotherapy placement. The trip is fully organised by the UCD Volunteers Overseas charity. While abroad I will be representing UCDVO and working with children who have cerebral palsy. Our physiotherapy team, (6 undergraduate physiotherapy students and one educator - a chartered physiotherapist) will be providing these children and their caregivers with much needed care, equipment, physical education and advice, all in an attempt to improve their standard of living in a sustainable way. We will be working alongside an even larger group of approximatly 20 UCDVO Volunteers from all different areas of the university while in Nansana (Nursing, Commerce, Psychology, Midwifery, Nutrition and Medicine students.) I am really looking forward to working with this brilliant team of people. The vast diversity in academic backgrounds will certainly ensure a hollistic approach to the care given to the Ugandan children that we will be working with.Each group member has been set the task of fundraising €2650 for this very worthwhile charity. All donations, no matter how big or small, are massively appreciated and will definetely go a long way!
