1. In 2017, Diabetes Ireland will continue to tackle the epidemic of obesity and pre-diabetes. It plans to expand its Sugar Smart initiative which aims to increase public awareness of the benefits of a healthier lifestyle and the risks of not following such a lifestyle.

2. Diabetes Ireland are developing an online educational programme for those seeking information about the condition. It will cover an overview as well as healthy eating recommendations and exercise guidelines. This online resource will act as a tool for those living with type 2 diabetes to access the information they require to manage their condition as effectively as they can. To date, we have secured funding of €40,000 for this project but we require a further €80,000 to complete the project.

3. Funding high quality research will continue to be a focus. In conjunction with the Health Research Board, we plan to fund a 2-year project to help tackle osteoporosis.
